College of the Ozarks will host a ceramics exhibition titled “Patterns and Practice” by Laura Ashley in the Boger Art Gallery Sept. 1 through Oct. 5.

College of the Ozarks will host the ceramics exhibition, “Patterns and Practice,” in Boger Art Gallery, located on the first floor of the Jones Learning Center. The exhibit will be open to the public Sept. 1 through Oct. 5, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free and community members are encouraged to attend.

The exhibition features the work of College of the Ozarks Assistant Professor of Art Laura Ashley.

Guests will have the opportunity to view freestanding ceramic and wall pieces. Each piece contains elements of flowers and foliage. Ashley’s exhibit explores artistic elements like unity, balance, and color.

“Practicing just means making multiples of one thing,” Ashley said. “My exhibition is called ‘Patterns and Practice’ because I have made multiple copies of my clay work, yet each piece is wholly unique for guests to relate to and enjoy.”

Ashley received her Master of Fine Arts from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She was invited to be a resident artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia and worked as an art teacher for the Clay Mobile, a nonprofit art outreach program. She is the former executive director of the Gumtree Museum of Art in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Ashley will lead a ceramics workshop on Sept. 8 and a lecture on Sept. 29 at College of the Ozarks.

Workshop and Lecture

Ashley will host a workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Clay Studio located in the basement of the Print Shop on the College of the Ozarks campus. During the workshop, Ashley will demonstrate her artistic process using a combination of clay techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about her work, inspirations, and professional experiences.

A lecture will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Gittinger Recital Hall. Ashley will present a slideshow highlighting her journey as an artist, maker, and educator.
