College of the Ozarks will host members of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, Company C, for a day of honor and remembrance on Thursday, Oct. 23. This annual event serves as a moving tribute to the service, sacrifice, and brotherhood of these Vietnam Veterans who gave so much in defense of freedom.

Event Schedule:

  • 8:45 a.m. — Arrival on campus
  • 9 a.m. — Group photos with ROTC cadets
  • 9:20–10:45 a.m. — Program at Patriots Park
  • 11 a.m. — Memorial service
  • 12 p.m. — Lunch

The Veterans will receive a full police escort from their hotel to the College campus, led by the Branson Police Department, Hollister Police Department, Taney County Sheriff’s Office, and the Missouri Highway Patrol. Upon arrival, the Forsyth and Branson ROTC units will line both sides of Opportunity Avenue to greet the Veterans, while Branson Fire & Rescue and Taney County Fire & Rescue join in a firefighter’s salute as the motorcade enters campus. The Branson High School Mass Media Department will document the event in its entirety.

The morning program will feature patriotic musical performances by Branson entertainer CJ Newsom, who will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” Brig. Gen. James Schreffler will deliver a heartfelt “Welcome Home Message,” recognizing the courage and resilience of those who served. College of the Ozarks senior Madelyn Sestak will provide the invocation, and senior Cooper Knight will lead the Pledge of Allegiance — a poignant reminder of the College’s commitment to faith, family, and patriotism.

A representative from the City of Branson will present a framed proclamation from Mayor Larry Milton, declaring Branson “America’s Most Patriotic City.” A memorial service will follow at The Keeter Center, featuring a performance of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” as guests proceed into the dining room for an invitation-only event. Bob Sarver, a member of Branson Veterans of America Chapter 913, will serve as the keynote speaker.

"Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division, served with exceptional valor during the Vietnam War, facing some of the most challenging combat conditions in the Central Highlands region,” Sarver said. “Their sacrifices —enduring intense jungle warfare, harsh terrain, and the constant threat of ambush — are a testament to their courage and devotion to country.”

“The College of the Ozarks community is honored to host members of Charlie Company,” said Chassidy Brittain, director of patriotic activities. “The College is proud to stand beside these heroes and to celebrate their patriotism, valiant heroism, and enduring spirit. Their legacy continues to inspire our students and all who are privileged to hear their stories.”

College of the Ozarks is honored to partner with local agencies and community organizations to ensure these Veterans are recognized with the gratitude and respect they have earned.
