POINT LOOKOUT, MO — College of the Ozarks will honor the unwavering dedication and bravery of local first responders at the 2025 First Responder Appreciation Day on Friday, April 11, from 9 to 11 a.m. The event will take place on the College campus and is open to the public.

This event serves as a tribute to the commitment of first responders, including federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, correction officers, firefighters, paramedics, emergency medical services personnel, 911 dispatchers, probation and parole officers, park rangers, game wardens, and wildlife officers. The College also extends gratitude to the families who support these heroes in their service to the community.

The event will feature a parade of emergency vehicles entering the campus, welcomed by the cheers of students, faculty, and community members. The procession will begin at the main entrance of the College and conclude at the Hook Activity Center, where the formal program will take place. Following the procession, an award ceremony and reception will take place in the Hook Activity Center, where attendees can enjoy refreshments and camaraderie.

The keynote address will be delivered by Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin, a proud alumnus of College of the Ozarks. Additional remarks will be given by Dr. Marci Linson, Vice President of Vocational Activities and Dean of Administration.

Ceremonial Elements
The event will also feature special presentations, including:

  • Presentation of Colors by the Southwest Missouri Fire Color Guard (with the College's Military Science Color Guard as a backup)
  • National Anthem performed by the School of the Ozarks Choir
  • Natalie Fisher, a senior at School of the Ozarks and daughter of a first responder, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Invocation by Dr. Justin Carswell, Vice President of Christian Ministries and Dean of the Chapel

As part of the ceremony, the First Responder Award will be presented to a distinguished member of law enforcement, recognizing exceptional service that reflects the five pillars of the College’s mission.

The College welcomes community members to join in the celebration. No registration is required, and attendees are encouraged to bring American flags to show their support. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and parking for visitors will be designated near the event area.

This event aligns with the College’s patriotic mission and commitment to honoring those who serve. Unlike other appreciation events that focus on military members, this event highlights the daily sacrifices and heroism of first responders.
