POINT LOOKOUT, MO. —On Friday, Jan. 24, School of the Ozarks held their Classical Christian Community (3C) Friday Event. Homeschool families who live in the area were invited for a day of fellowship and learning.

The theme for the day was “Bringing Literature to Life,” and they chose to study “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” by C.S. Lewis.

Jenni Carey, K-8 curriculum director/lead teacher, and Beth Howard, associate professor of Kindergarten at School of the Ozarks, oversaw the planning and implementation of the event.

“This work is a favorite among classical educators for its promotion of virtues like truth, goodness, and beauty,” Carey said.

The day began at 9 a.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel for worship and finished at the Lower School Commons area. School of the Ozarks faculty dressed as the main characters from “Narnia” and taught lessons to the students about virtues from the story.

There will be two more 3C Friday’s this year on Feb. 28 and April 24. Each community event focuses on one of the College of the Ozarks goals. The event last Friday promoted the academic goal and the event in February will focus on the patriotic goal. The one in April will focus on the Christian goal. The college focuses on five goal areas—academic, Christian, cultural, patriotic, and vocational.

“It is important to us to build community relationships and offer comradery to those who are walking through classical education along with us,” Carey said. “It is our pleasure to offer this day of enjoyment and learning to our own students as well as our honored homeschooled guests.”
