College of the Ozarks Music Department hosts Jazz Combo Concert - INTERNAL EVENT
POINT LOOKOUT, MO. — The College of the Ozarks Jazz Combo will hold a concert on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Newman Recital Hall of the Gittinger Music Building.
The event is open to faculty and staff on a first come, first serve basis with limited seating available. The concert will be livestreamed on the College of the Ozarks Music Department Facebook page and will be viewable to the public at https://www.facebook.com/musicatcofo/.
Because of the limited seating, an overflow audience will view a livestream of the event in a separate room.
Dr. Kevin Powers, assistant director of music and director of bands, is director of the Jazz Combo. When asked about the opportunity to perform in a pandemic, Powers stated, “I am so thankful that I am at an institution where we are able to have our concerts and performances. It’s been a challenging year, but it’s good to look at everything in perspective.”
The combo featured the following: Bill Reder, adjunct professor for woodwind studies, on tenor saxophone; Powers on trumpet; Brian Hofmann, senior computer science major, on piano; Landon Hildebrand, sophomore instrumental music education major, on bass; and Nathan Foley, senior music minister major, on drums.
Reder was one of the premier saxophonists in Las Vegas for more than 20 years and played for greats such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, Liberace, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lewis, and many others. In addition to teaching, Reder also performs in the Hollister/Branson area.
