Stained Glass and Candles

Position Title:

Stained Glass Artist/Candle Maker

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 3

Job Description:

The Stained Glass/Candles Department operating hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday, closed on Sundays.  The department is closed Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving day,  and Christmas week.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Learn the art of stained glass,
Learn candle making process,
Produce saleable merchandise for the Keeter Center gift shop,
Greet and answer questions of department visitors,
General maintenance of equipment and tools.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

General cleaning of the work area,
Professionally answer incoming department phone calls (in absence of supervisor).

Basic Qualifications:

Willingness to learn the skill of stained glass and candle making,
Dependability, promptness and faithful adherence to the work schedule,
Ability to pay attention to detail,
Phone skills: professionally answer phone and take messages,
Customer service attitude.

Desirable Qualifications:

Ability to work closely with others,
Pleasant personality,
Self-starter.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Learn the art of stained glass making: pattern drawing/making, choosing glass/colors, glass direction-color/texture, glass cutting/grinding/foiling/soldering/finishing,
Learn the process of making container candles: choosing container/scent/color/wick, wicking process, ingredient ratios compatible to container choice,
Learn to operate various tools and equipment to complete assigned tasks,
Learn the general maintenance of equipment and tools,
Learn general housekeeping duties for the department,
Learn safety practices to meet department guidelines,
Learn the department rules/guidelines,
Learn organizational and management skills, as well as to be a self-starter,
Develop dependability, promptness, and faithful adherence to the work schedule,
Learn the ability to pay attention to detail,
Learn the process of invoicing merchandise to the gift shop,
Develop good interpersonal skills and learn professional telephone etiquette,
Develop a customer service attitude,
Be introduced to a possible new career and/or hobby options.
