Position Title:

Phoenix (Yearbook) Student Worker

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 4

Job Description:

The Phoenix student workers organize, publish, and distribute the yearbook.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Work as a team to decide who will photograph each event on campus,
Attend and photograph events on campus,
Computer layout and design of spreads,
Edit and proof all of the content intended for print,
Maintain communication with Phoenix advisor,
Design concept for yearbook theme,
Meet deadlines in getting specific sections of the yearbook to the College Press,
Receiving and distributing finished yearbook to students, staff, and alumni.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Vacuum, dust and basic cleaning of office,
Occasionally work on special events.

Basic Qualifications:

Computer skills—we use InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator; we will train accordingly,
Interview skills,
Able to be creative and original when creating spreads,
Flexible schedule during the week and some weekends.

Desirable Qualifications:

Pleasant personality,
Ability to work with others,
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Learn the rules and regulations for information management at the College and follow them precisely,
Learn to effectively use still photography, and editing equipment,
Be proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, and other Phoenix yearbook programs,
Learn to take pride in the quality of the work that is done,
Learn how to communicate with many different offices and supervisors,
Develop good interpersonal skills,
Learn the importance of meeting deadlines,
Learn how to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at the same time,
Learn good time management,
Learn how to begin and complete a project as an individual,
Learn how to begin and complete a project as a team.
