Job Description:
The Mass Communication Department normally operates five days a week and four nights, to include operation of computer, audio and video laboratory areas for use by students for completion of coursework assignments. In addition, Lab Assistants work videotaping and editing convocations, basketball games, productions, and projects and duplications of materials for our department as well as others. Also, Lab Assistants work in sound recording for our department as well as others.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Office Manager:
Pick up department mail from Mail Ops daily,
Keep inventory of office supplies, printer ink and media stock; obtain new supplies from warehouse when necessary,
Maintain departmental work schedule and updated contact information for all student workers
Maintain a current census of all departmental keys,
Assist work supervisor in keeping student workers informed of meetings, deadlines and requirements by means of postings, emails and the like,
Keep assigned area neat and clean,
Assist professors in the department when necessary, especially in areas of grading and producing class materials, such as copies,
Vacuum, organize, take out trash, and occasionally work on special events.
Video Lab Assistant:
Coordinate times for students to check out equipment and use the production facilities,
Assist students with proper use and care of all equipment,
Responsible for acting as camera operators, directors, editors, etc. of campus projects,
Keep supervisor informed of equipment that is not working properly,
Keep assigned work areas clean and all equipment put away,
Help out office manager, faculty and staff as needed,
Vacuum, organize, take out trash, and occasionally work on special events.
Audio Lab Assistant:
Coordinate times for students to check out equipment and use the production facilities,
Assist students with proper use and care of all equipment,
Responsible for acting as producers and audio technicians for student and campus projects,
Keep supervisor informed of equipment that is not working properly,
Keep assigned work areas clean and all equipment put away,
Help out office manager, faculty and staff as needed,
Vacuum, organize, take out trash, and occasionally work on special events.
Basic Qualifications:
Must have completed MPR213 - Basic Video Production (for Video Lab Assistant),
Must have completed MPR253 - Intro to Sound Recording (for Audio Lab Assistant),
Organizational Skills,
Critical Thinking/Problem Solver,
Must be able to carry loads of up to 40 pounds.

Be proficient in ProTools, Adobe Audition, Adobe Sound booth, Sound Track Pro and other Mass Communications programs,
Be able to teach principles and mechanics of video and audio equipment to other students,
