Position Title:

Student Assistant

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 4

Job Description:

Student workers must be able to work late hours, weekends, create and conduct health/exercise classes and have the ability to create newsletters.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Assist with general office duties,
Help students, staff and faculty use equipment within the facility,
Perform maintenance on exercise equipment,
Prepare newsletters and information guides,
Serve as gymnasium staff during home athletic activities.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Assist with any activity being conducted in the Howell Keeter Gymnasium.

Basic Qualifications:

Have an interest in exercise and fitness,
Be able to work nights and weekends,
Be able to work well as a team member,
Enjoy assisting others.

Desirable Qualifications:

Take pride in your work station,
Take initiative.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Be responsible to initiate conversations with guests and help assist them as needed,
Exercise proper phone etiquette and be knowledgeable of campus recreation activities during the operating and non-operating hours,
Expected to represent the Fitness Center in accord with the policies and mission of the College,
Provide safe and effective instruction of all cardiovascular and weight training equipment,
Learn how to offer useful, tactful, and safe advice to individuals regarding their exercise program and/or use of equipment,
Learn to enforce rules and safety guidelines as required,
Learn how to video screen/film at all home athletic events,
Assist in the creation and implementation of work schedules,
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all areas/rooms,
Work closely with the Director to set up and execute all program activities and events,
Coordinate and oversee the paperwork (keeping up with spreadsheets, filing, tracking participation counts, purchases, etc.),
Assist in development of promotional materials.
