Job Description:
The student workers in the Computer Science Department serve as departmental assistants to the professors of the department, and assist other students utilizing the Computer Science Lab. The Computer Science Department lab hours of operation are as follows:
Monday-Thursday | 8:00 am | - 11:00 pm |
Friday | 8:00 am | - 5:00 pm |
Saturday & Sunday | 1:00 pm | - 3:00 pm |
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Assist students with software-related problems including, but not limited to Microsoft Windows Operating system, Microsoft Office suite, various Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), and language translators,
Check printer paper and toner supply weekly and request replacement when necessary,
Report any violations of Computer Science Lab policies to a CS faculty member,
Ensure the proper updates are maintained on lab systems monthly,
Maintain a pleasant, professional attitude toward all lab users and fellow lab assistants,
Ensure campus mail is picked up and delivered daily,
Clean tables, mop floors, and police the labs and offices weekly,
Perform special projects as assigned by the CS faculty lab supervisor,
Obtain prior approval of CS faculty lab supervisor for any deviation to your work schedule,
Assist any CS faculty member as required when requested to do so. Such assistance will include but not be limited to preparation of class materials, grading tests and homework, assisting during class, proctoring tests, running errands, etc.,
Contact CS faculty lab supervisor for any reason that you cannot appear at work as scheduled. This includes sickness, weather, or personal emergencies.
Prepare and maintain the Computer Science tea and coffee station
Proctor the Fundamentals of Computer Science Proficiency Exam
Basic Qualifications:
Completion of Programming I (CSC-133) with at least a B average,
Recommendation of all CSC professors.

A pleasant personality,
Get along well with others,
Patience with students requiring assistance,
Effective communication skills,
Ability to multi-task,
Good attention to detail,

Students desiring a position in the Computer Science computer lab should submit their name for consideration and request an appointment to interview with the work supervisor.
