Job Description:
The student worker in The Keeter Center for Character Education office will assist the Executive Director and staff of the department.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Assist in preparation of convocations and events,
Assist in guest relations at the event,
Assist in coordinating printed publications.
Secondary duties and responsibilities:
Assist in maintaining database,
Clerical work of various kinds,
Computer work and research,
Correspondence as assigned,
Proof reading as necessary,
Filing and other record keeping,
Occasionally answering the phone,
Pick up and deliver mail,
Deliver items to the print shop and other areas on campus.
Basic Qualifications:
Reliability and punctuality,
Above average typing skills and computer literacy,
Ability to work well with people and the public,
Well groomed and high level of professionalism,
Responsible for general cleaning duties of the office: vacuum, dust, trash.
Desirable Qualifications:
Writing experience,
Above average writing skills,
High level of initiative.

The student will:
Learn all aspects, policies, and procedures of the Character Education office,
Develop proficient and appropriate telephone and office etiquette,
Use effective communication skills within the office setting and with other students, faculty, staff, the public and guests,
Understand appropriate attire and display positive work habits,
Develop a better working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs - as our events require using these programs,
Learn all the aspects of event planning for four different types of events which include: a Character Education conference, a Poverty Summit, a major Convocation, and a major three day forum,
Develop a professional mentality and composure by working directly with the President's office, PR department, VIP events, VIP guests, Veterans, and guest speakers through our events,
Learn to go above and beyond what is expected to serve the people on and off campus,
Learn how to interact respectfully with co-workers and promote a positive atmosphere in the Character Education office,
Understand how to take the initiative and complete tasks with confidence,
Learn adherence to their work schedule, promptness, planning ahead, and clearly communicating any unforeseen schedule changes,
Continually strive to improve both personally and professionally in addition to being challenged to grow in working both independently and with a team,
Learn the importance of keeping appropriate matters confidential and develop workplace loyalty,
Learn seven of the most important aspects of the Character Education office: good character, professionalism, the importance of communication, efficiency and follow through, attention to detail, a servant heart, and a deep appreciation for patriotism and civic duty.
