Position Title:

Bookstore Clerk

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 1

Job Description:

Responsibilities include cash register sales, bookkeeping, data entry, pricing and receiving books, supplies and clothing, returning books, customer service and cleaning duties.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Customer Service,
Cleaning,
Merchandising,
Receiving,
Stocking.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Return books,
Data entry,
Order supplies,
Inventory management.

Basic Qualifications:

Good attitude,
Attention to detail,
Telephone skills,
Basic knowledge of math,
Honest/dependable,
Must be able to lift heavy items,
Basic computer skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Cheerful,
Creative,
Punctual,
Responsible.

Additional Remarks

Student must interview with bookstore supervisor.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Understand the importance of dependability, reliable work habits, and wearing appropriate attire,
Understand the importance of being able to work successfully as part of a team, as well as, being able to work independently,
Understand the importance of completing tasks and taking the initiative in completing projects before assigned,
Understand the importance of confidentiality of student information, department information and conversations in the work place,
Understand the Golden Rule, "Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you", in the workplace in dealing with customers, co-workers, and supervisors,
Understand the importance of professionalism when greeting customers face to face and on the phone,
Understand the working of inventory processes,
Understand the importance of attention to detail,
Understand the importance of working quickly and efficiently during busy times,
Understand the importance of accuracy in learning and balancing cash drawers.
