Art Department

Position Title:

Student Assistant

Required Schedule Flexibility

(1-5 scale with 5 as most flexible): 5

Job Description:

The Art Department is open the following times:
Monday through Thursday:  8 am – 10 pm, Friday:  8 am – 5 pm,
Saturday 1 pm – 5 pm, and Sunday 1 pm – 10 pm

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Maintenance and supervision of the studios, gallery, and equipment,
Assist students in the technical aspects of creating art,
Help with the Boger Gallery Program—exhibits, receptions, and workshops,
Creation of all graphic materials for the Art Department and other departments on campus,
Research and technical assistance in the creation of power point lectures for faculty.

Secondary duties and responsibilities:

Secretarial duties.

Basic Qualifications:

Ability to see what needs to be done and to do it without being told,
Willingness to work nights and weekends,
Knowledge and adeptness at using software in Adobe Creative Suite, small hand tools, mat cutter, power tools, and photography equipment (or a willingness to learn).

Desirable Qualifications:

Sense of humor.

Learning Objectives:

The student will:
Work independently and without supervision,
Arrive to work on time and work the entire length of the schedule,
Communicate with the work supervisor and other faculty,
Complete assigned tasks within a reasonable time frame,
Fulfill their department cleaning assignments without being reminded,
Identify work which needs to be e done and does it without being told,
Act in a manner worthy of trust,
Complete assigned work in the evening and weekend hours and does not steal time to do their own work,
Understand that it is not enough to just get a task done, but done well,
Ask how to complete assignments when unsure of process,
Strive to present the department as a place where expectations and quality are high,
Maintain department studios, closets, and equipment,
Pick up and put away tools and equipment,
Know the proper way to use tools and safety regulations,
Wear appropriate safety equipment,
Will empty trash and recycling.
