Dear Student,
Thank you for considering the College of the Ozarks. A required part of the admissions process is the completion of a 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Please use FAFSA on the Web to complete your FAFSA. This is a faster, easier version of the paper FAFSA, which will electronically deliver your information to the schools of your choice. Listed below are the suggested steps you should follow in order to complete your financial aid application on the web. If you have already filed a FAFSA, do not complete another application.
- Apply for a personal identification number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. Parents and first time financial aid applicants will need to apply for a PIN. To apply, select “Apply for a PIN” from the PIN Home Page. It will take approximately 1-3 days after your request to receive the numbers in the mail or electronically. More information concerning the PIN is located within the brochure from Federal Student Aid enclosed in your admission packet.
- Complete your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1, 2010. You will need your 2009 financial records and your parents’ to complete the FAFSA. After you have submitted your application online using the “Submit My FAFSA Now” button, using your PIN as your signatures, the Department of Education will electronically send your application to the schools of your choice. It usually takes 7-10 days for the College to receive your application. Please make sure that you add our school code to your application. Our school code is 002500. More information concerning the completion of a FAFSA is located within the brochure from Federal Student Aid enclosed in your admission packet.
- If you or your parents are not required by the IRS to complete a federal tax return, please complete the Not Filing a Tax Return Worksheet. This must be sent in if you will not be filing. Please send the Not Filing Tax Return Worksheet to us so that we may verify data elements on the FAFSA. Your admission process is not complete without this information if either you or your parents are not filing a federal tax return. Failure to provide this information can result in your admission process being delayed.
It is very important that you and your parents understand that by signing the FAFSA application you certify that you (1) will use federal and/or state financial aid only to pay the cost of attending an institution of higher education, (2) are not in default on a federal student loan or have made satisfactory arrangements to repay it, (3) do not owe money back on a federal student grant or have made satisfactory arrangements to repay it, (4) will notify your school if you default on a federal student loan and (5) will not receive a Federal Pell Grant for more than one school for the same period of time. Signing the application also means that you agree, if asked, to provide information that will verify the accuracy of your completed form. This information may include your U.S. tax forms. Also, you certify that you understand that the Secretary of Education has the authority to verify information reported on this application with the Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies. If you purposely give false or misleading information, you may be fined $20,000, sent to prison, or both.
