SUBJECT: COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS ROTC GAINS NEW CADET
By: Tyler Lopez
On February 20, 2013, sophomore Derek Gates signed with the Army ROTC to become a commissioned officer in the United States Army upon graduation from College of the Ozarks.
Gates, an allied health major, aspires to be a personal trainer within the U.S. Army upon graduation. He attributes his interest in the program to his high school JROTC instructor, Sergeant Cogdil. “He got me fired up to be a leader and a mentor to others,” said Gates.
Present for the signing was MAJ Doug Schenck, U.S. Army (Ret.). “The fact that young men like him [Gates] want to serve their country speaks volumes about their character,” said Schenck. “We are fortunate to have great Americans right here at College of the Ozarks.”
