SUBJECT: SCHOOL OF THE OZARKS PLACES SECOND IN CHESS TOURNAMENT

By: Lauren Meyer

School of the Ozarks hosted the Mark Twain Conference Chess Tournament on campus Friday, October 4. The School of the Ozarks team placed second, and S of O senior Ben Creech finished second in the individual category.

In preparation for their chess meets, S of O students practice one to three hours each week. “There are currently 15 active chess members, 11 of whom participated in this tournament,” said Chess Team sponsor Layne Wilks. “S of O students are looking forward to more tournaments in the coming winter and spring.”

Other schools that participated in the tournament include: New Covenant Academy (NCA), Bradleyville, Chadwick, Everton, Hurley and Niangua. NCA placed first and Bradleyville third. In the individual category, Hunter Poole from NCA finished first, and Dakota Burrall, from Bradleyville, finished third.

School of the Ozarks is a high school, operated by College of the Ozarks. The S of O vision mirrors the College’s vision “to develop citizens of Christ-like character, who are well-educated, hard-working, and patriotic.”
