Walker Scores 1000th Point

Emily Walker College of the Ozarks’ senior guard Emily Walker reached a milestone in her college basketball career when she scored her 1,000th point during the Lady Bobcats’ game at Central Methodist University this past Saturday.  Walker, who received Academic All-American and first-team All-Conference honors last season, is a fierce competitor and arguably one of the best defenders in the program’s history.  Emily’s ability to guard any opposing player is key to the team’s success.  As the heart and soul of the team, she imparts strong leadership to the players.

This season Walker has also brought an improved offensive game to the court.  She has been the team leader in scoring this season, averaging 15.8 points per game.  With teams guarding her closely, her field goal shooting percentage is 44%.  However, tight guarding often leads to increased defensive fouls and great opportunities at the free-throw line.  Emily’s skill at the line, having a strong free throw percentage of 85%, has allowed her to score 93 points this season for the Lady Bobcats at the free-throw line alone.

Head Coach Becky Vest comments, “Emily is well deserving of reaching this milestone.  It is a culmination of a great career filled with hard work and the desire to improve each year on and off the court.  Coach Smith and I are certainly proud of her and all of her accomplishments over the course of her outstanding career.  Perhaps most remarkable about this milestone is the defensive responsibility Emily takes on each night.  She expends a substantial amount of energy on the defensive end, guarding the opponent’s best player night in and night out.  Contributing on the offensive side of the ball is an added bonus for our team and shows how Emily has developed into an outstanding all-around player.”

The College will recognize Walker’s accomplishment at their next home game on January 3rd, 3:30 PM, at the Keeter Athletic Complex, where the Lady Bobcats will take on the #11 ranked Lady Builders of Southwestern College.
