Lady 'Cats Split on the Road

Lady BobcatsThe Lady ‘Cats hit the road this weekend for two conference games and returned with a split.  Friday found them soundly defeating Waldorf College by 50 points, but on Saturday, facing #12 College of St. Mary, the ladies could not pull out a victory.  Following is a brief recap of each game.

The #13 College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats (16-4) earned their third Conference win against Waldorf College (3-13) Friday evening on the road. The Lady 'Cats exploded with a solid string of possessions to gain a 10 point lead and extended it throughout the game. All players scored for C of O, including Freshman Alice Heinzler who led the way with perfect shooting for the night. She was 6-6 from the field, making 3-3 treys and shot 4-4 from the free throw line. Senior Emily Walker scored 17 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, and Junior Kayla Kepler had 14 points and 7 boards. The Lady 'Cats shot 51% from the field and were 41% from the three point line, while holding their opponent to 21% shooting. Waldorf's Brenna Brigham led the Warriors with 13 points. C of O is 3-0 in the MCAC and will travel to Omaha, NE to take on #12 College of St. Mary (14-4) tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm. The game is being featured as the NAIA Game of the Week. 

On Saturday, the Lady Bobcats (16-5) suffered their first Conference loss to #12 College of St. Mary (15-4). The Lady 'Cats led the Flames by 1 at half after gaining a seven-point lead to start the game.  However, C of O could not gain any momentum to respond to St. Mary's 53 second-half points. The game seemed to be decided on rebounds and turnovers, as the Lady Bobcats were out-rebounded by 12 and gave up 22 offensive boards. They also committed 19 turnovers. C of O's Freshman Alice Heinzler led the scoring front with 17 points.  Also in double digits were Emily Walker (16), Kayla Kepler (14), and Brandy Uchtman (10). College of St. Mary was led by Deaundra Young who scored 25 points.
