Beulah I. Winfrey Business Alumni Chapter 11/5/2011

Vice President Kevin Riley called the meeting to order at 11:05 a.m.  Riley welcomed everyone to the meeting and encouraged those present to recruit new members.  The Chapter approved the minutes of the November 5, 2010, meeting.

The Treasurer’s Report showed a balance of $2,657.71 as of November 2010, dues and donations collected of $2,855.00, for a new balance of $5,512.71.  With the $112.00 expense for graduation honor cords for Sigma Beta Delta, the November 2011 balance is $5,400.71.

The Business Undergraduate Society expressed thanks to alumni member Patrick Fuller for his assistance in organizing a spring trip to Oklahoma City.  He was instrumental in obtaining tours at Sonic Headquarters, Loves Travel and Country Stores headquarters and the Hobby Lobby Distribution Center.

Rachel Mullinax presented the SIFE report.  SIFE won at regional competition last year and qualified for national competition.  With the criteria for competition having been changed, several new projects were introduced last competition year.  The SIFE team was very pleased to help bring financial author and radio host Dave Ramsey to campus.  The Ramsey convocation was well received.

The Sigma Beta Delta honor society had eight new members for the Spring 20110 graduation.  The cost of the honor chords for those graduated was $88.00.  Alumni member Jeff Shipley graciously agreed to fund the costs of those cords.  The Alumni group allocated up to $1,000.00 to the Business Undergraduate Society for spring travel.  Riley announced the Board of Trustees had approved a $58,000.00 capital expenditure for a computer classroom.  The computer classroom should be available by the spring semester.

Officers for next year will be Kevin Riley, President, moving up from Vice-President, Katy Cameron, Vice-President, moving up from Secretary/Treasurer, and Jeff Shipley, Secretary/Treasurer, elected at this meeting.

President Riley encouraged membership in the Alumni Chapter and the current Chapter members discussed using social networking sites to better inform members of the business alumni about the Winfrey Business Alumni Chapter.  The objective is to increase membership numbers.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:31 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Kevin Riley, acting Secretary/Treasurer
